Dads seem to get a bad rap when it comes to baby care. If you believe everything you see on television or in magazines and books, you would think that men are completely incapable and uninterested in any type of baby care. Well, listen up—this is simply not true. Any man can be great with a baby and if you are patient and let him know what you need help with, your better half will happily help with the baby chores. Here are some great tips to include dad with baby chores.

Feeding: Okay, it is true—moms can breastfed, but dads just can’t. However, there are still great ways to include dad in the breastfeeding routine. First of all, your hubby can carry to baby to you when it is time to eat. He can also sit near you and talk to you. After all, breastfeeding can take some time and it is wonderful for the baby to hear his voice during a positive time, such as feeding time. He can also help you with the burping. Hand over the baby when that baby has tummy bubble and let dad give burping a try. If you pump or use a bottle, then of course, dad can take over the feeding time. Feeding time is a great way for dad to bond with the baby at any time.

Bathing and diapering: What is more fun than bath time? Get dad involved with helping you bath the baby. Your baby will absolutely love getting clean and dad can act goofy and have fun with the baby. Diapering is also a dad job when mom needs a break. Dad may be a little more stand-offish when it comes to changing those stinky ones, but never take over this chore alone. If your husband has never changed a diaper before, he may only need a little tutorial. Pretty soon, dad will be a diaper changing pro.

Rock-a-bye baby: Dads can rock that sweet little baby to sleep, too. Give him a chance and while he may not always sing lullabies, your baby and your husband both will soon learn to treasure those times together. Make sure you have a comfortable place for them to have a little alone time, whether it is the rocker in the nursery or the recliner in front of the television. They will both enjoy these quiet times together.

Going out with dad: Everyone needs a break now and again, so dad can give mom a break by taking baby out. Maybe he is just going for a quick job around the block or running to the home improvement store. The baby can go, too. Make sure Dad is well equipped with the right baby gear and they will be ready to go at anytime. Maybe think about getting dad his own special diaper bag, such as a manly backpack instead of the cute pink bag. There are plenty of products out there that your guy won’t mind carrying with him when he takes baby out on an outing.

Never tell him he is doing it wrong: One thing you will want to do is to make sure you encourage dad at all time and offer plenty of praise when he takes an interest in taking care of baby. Never nag him or tell him he is doing something wrong when it comes to baby care. Give him a chance to see if he can handle the problem or situation on his own. While he may take care of things differently than you would, that is a critical part in raising your baby. Allow him to make his own decisions when he cares for the baby and you will find a dad that is much happier when to comes to taking care of the little one.
