Parenting for Dummies is one of the many, many books about raising children on the market today. With all of the various choices out there many new parents are confused as to which texts to choose. Your personal tastes can determine whether Parenting for Dummies is right for you.

This book is outstanding because it is accessible to the reader. You don’t have to have a BS in Psychology to understand the concepts offered by the authors. Many might look down their noses at a book written by someone who has no credentials. However, the Parenting for Dummies is written by a woman who has four boys. This is credential enough in my estimation.

The information presented in the chapters of Parenting for Dummies is extremely well-organized. You can find hints and help on topics ranging from potty training to fussy eaters. This book is not all-inclusive but it does provide valuable information that is really useful.

Many other books about parenting really focus on theories. Theory doesn’t always flow well into practice. The credentialed authors tend to write about concepts rather than practical application. While it is great to understand ideas like object permanence, it is more useful to know that peek-a-boo will help a child understand that a thing still exists when it isn’t in view.

The focus of Parenting for Dummies is practical strategies for raising children. There are many who find this kind of information way more useful than lofty ideas. The text addresses a lot of the problems that parents face everyday. I love that the book encourages parents to have a sense of humor and to have fun with their kids.

The book offers great advice and the information is presented in a funny, easy-to-read format. I was thrilled to find a book about parenting that offered a great read as well as useful information. Many other texts read more like high school textbooks. Learning strategies while taking time to enjoy a good book is one of the biggest benefits Parenting for Dummies has to offer. Other books for parents put me to sleep and I didn’t retain much of the information that I read because the presentation was so dry.

If you want to learn about child psychology then you will probably want to buy a book from a credentialed author. However, if you want to find helpful tips and strategies for raising your child you definitely want to check out Parenting for Dummies.
